Why is it important to go to the otolaryngologist and head and neck surgeon?

Being the specialist in ear, nose and throat, the otorhinolaryngologist is the ideal doctor to assess conditions in these areas.

To train as a specialist in otorhinolaryngology and head and neck surgery in Mexico, a medical degree is first completed and later, through a national examination, the best averages are selected to enter the residency of this specialty, which has a duration of four years.

During these years, the otorhinolaryngology resident learns to identify, treat, prevent and operate ear, nose and throat pathologies. Through these years, we also gain experience with the day-to-day of seeing patients, which will help provide timely and effective treatment for patients.

Although it is true that the general practitioner and other specialists assess patients with this type of disease, it is not going to be compared with the preparation and experience of the otolaryngologist.

Many times in my day-to-day consultation patients arrive with conditions that were treated by non-specialist doctors in ear, nose and throat without improvement, worried that their condition has not been removed and since they have been previously treated, their improvement slows down rather than if they had come in the first instance with the otorhinolaryngologist.

As an otolaryngologist I see patients of all ages, from newborns to the elderly.

It is for these reasons that any patient, regardless of age, can be evaluated by an otolaryngologist from the beginning of any ear, nose and throat disease.
