Prominent cheeks
The Bichat bag is an anatomical structure composed of fatty tissue, which is highly relevant in the contour of the cheeks and therefore in the middle and lower region of the face. It is located in the thickness of the cheeks between the muscles of mastication. The function is related to sucking during lactation.
Bichat bags make the round and bulky face of the smallest babies’ characteristic. As children grow, fatty tissue decreases, making their faces slimmer. However, it is not reduced in the same way in all individuals, so people with a more rounded profile and poorly defined cheekbones have larger Bichat balls, which can appear overweight and less attractive in adulthood.
The remove of the Bichat pouch produces striking changes in facial symmetry, reducing the fullness of the cheeks, giving greater luminosity to the malar eminences and improving the angles of the jaw.
