Chronic Otitis Media
Chronic ear infection that is characterized by fluid, swelling or infection behind the eardrum that does not go away or keeps coming back.
It occurs more frequently in adult patients.
Causes chronic or permanent damage to hearing.
It often involves a hole in the eardrum that won´t heal. It causes can be:
Eustaquian tube dysfunction, acute ear infection or repetitive ear infections.
Treatment is usually surgical in most cases.
Symptoms and Diagnosis
The symptoms of Chronic Otitis Media could be the following:
- Otorrea (discharge coming out of the ear)
- Itching in the ear
- Hearing loss
- Otic fullness (Ear covered)
- Pain
- Bad ear smell
