Ear lobe correction (prominent ear hole)

On some occasions, the hole that is made in the earlobe where the earrings are placed over time, as a consequence, can become large, associated with the normal loss of turgor and elasticity of the skin and even deform or “tear” the earlobe.

On other occasions, this orifice is consciously made wider through the use of expanders.

In other cases, the lobe can be split in two by a habit of pulling the earring down or by some accident.

Whatever the cause is, there is the possibility of correcting this modification caused intentionally or accidentally.

There are two ways to correct the earlobe:

Hyaluronic acid:
Small incomplete clefts or “tears” and aging of the skin of the earlobe are improved with the injection of hyaluronic acid.

It is a practically painless procedure, which can be performed with topical anesthesia in the form of a cream or even with local cold.

By providing volume and hydration with hyaluronic acid, the shape and consistency of the earlobe is improved.

The effects usually last between 6 to 9 months, although it can vary from patient to patient.

Adverse effects are minor, such as bruising or edema at the injection site that improves with the application of local cold and compression.

One of the great advantages of using hyaluronic acid is that it is not only malleable, but it can be “reversible” with the use of its antidote, hyaluronidase.

Lobuloplasty:
The procedure can be performed in the office or at the surgery room, with local anesthesia.

The objective is to leave a functional hole or close the lobe if the patient so wishes.

It is recommended, after any treatment, to avoid prolonged and repetitive use of heavy earrings to avoid the appearance of new injuries.

It is important to assess each particular case to decide the most suitable treatment for each patient, and with this we can optimize the results.
