Drainage of deep neck abscess
A deep neck abscess is a collection of pus in the deep spaces of the neck (between one muscle and another), usually a consequence of a decayed tooth or an upper airway infection.
It usually occurs more commonly in patients with immunosuppression or chronic-degenerative diseases such as diabetes and kidney failure.
The diagnosis is clinical, supported by imaging tests that help to observe the extension of the abscess.
Treatment is surgical, requiring drainage of the pus accompanied by antibiotic therapy.
