Sialolithiasis

Sialolithiasis is a condition that is caused by the obstruction of a salivary gland or its excretory duct due to the formation of calcareous concretions or sialoliths. This pathology triggers a series of signs and symptoms until the obstruction of the duct that does not allow the passage of saliva, which produces painful symptoms and swelling. 

The most common methods used for the diagnosis of sialolithiasus are conventional sialography, T scan, magnetic resonance, ultrasound, etc. These diagnostic methods are variable according to the needs of the patient and accessibility, location of the sialolith, its size and the signs and symptoms present.

The management of these alterations includes non-surgical and invasive or noninvasive surgical procedures that sometimes involve the removal of the gland.
